(Abzeichen). A pair of badges for First World War and Freikorps service, including:
1. An Oldenburg Friedrich August Cross, constructed of blackened bronze, consisting of a Cross Pattée with its arms joined together through the quadrants by a circular laurel leaf wreath, the obverse with pebbled arms, bearing a central monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich August II, the six o’clock arm bearing a date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm bearing a royal crown, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, unmarked, measuring 44.36 mm (w) x 44.61 mm (h), weighing 20.7 grams, with some loss of finish evident, in near extremely fine condition.
2. A Silesian Eagle, I Class, constructed of silvered bronze with enamels, the obverse consisting of a Silesian-style German national eagle with highlighted feathering, clutching a banner in its talons bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR SCHLESIEN” (“FOR SILESIA”), overlaid by a Brustmond, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse fixtures in place, with a crimped hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 32.00 mm (w) x 42.32 mm (h), weighing 20.0 grams, two chips are visible to the enamels in addition to some surface scratching, with additional loss of silver finish to the base metal and evidence of repair to both the hinge and catch, in very fine condition.
