Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Narvik Shield

(Kriegsmarine Narvikschild). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised propeller, anchor, and edelweiss, representing the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Gebirgsjäger, respectively, flanked by a date of “1940”, and topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” with a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse retaining all four attachment prongs connecting to an original oval zink plate with a dark navy blue wool liner, unmarked, the shield measuring 42.31 mm (w) x 90.68 mm (h), demonstrating minor loss of finish and material fatigue to the wool backer, in extremely fine condition.
