Germany, SS. A Wound Badge Award Document to Hauptwachtmeister Herbert Wollitz, Anti-Partisan Actions, SS Polizei-Regiment 16

(Verleihungsurkunde für Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of off-white paper with black ink, named to “HAUPTWACHTMEISTER DER SCHUPO (Schutzpolizei) HERBERT WOLLITZ”, of SS Polizei-Regiment 16, awarding Wollitz the Black Grade Wound Badge on 6 March 1945 for a single wound suffered on 22 February 1945, certified by the handwritten signature of an unidentified Oberstabsarzt and Chefarzt of Feldlazarette (mot.) 607, measuring 14 cm (w) x 20 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: At the time of issue, SS Polizei-Regiment 16 was operational in Latvia, and engaged in anti-Partisan actions in the Courland region. It was earlier implicated in the Pirčiupiai massacre in June 1944, when 119 Soviet civilians were massacred following a Partisan attack on Waffen-SS troops. Notably, only a month after receiving his Wound Badge, Wollitz died as the result of combat actions on 14 April 1945 and is buried in the German War Cemetery at Sassnitz-Dwasieden.
