Description
A fine grouping of four Third Reich German medals, awards, and decorations consisting of:
1. A War Merit Cross Second Class with Swords. (Kriegsverdienstkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted October 18th, 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of bronze, with a fixed loop and ring for suspension, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse with a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a central wreathed date of “1939”, unmarked, accompanied by a period original matching ribbon, measuring 49.8 mm (w) x 49.2 mm (l), weighing 24.60 grams, in very fine condition.
2. A West Wall Medal with paper packet by Karl Poellath (Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen). Instituted August 2nd, 1939. Constructed of bronzed feinzink, on a fixed loop and ring for suspension, the obverse with a crossed shovel and sword in the centre, and a concrete pillbox/bunker directly below, as well as with the German national eagle above, all within an oak leaf wreath, the reverse inscribed “Für Arbeit zum schutze Deutschlands” (For labour for the protection of Germany) within an oak wreath, unmarked, accompanied by its full length period original ribbon, measuring 33.3 mm (w) x 45.5 mm (l), weighing 14.70 grams, accompanied by a modern replacement ribbon and paper packet of issue with “Deusches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen” printed in black lettering on the front, the reverse marker marked “Karl Poellath, Schrobenhausen”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 105 mm (l), with the majority of the bronze finish worn off the award through age and wear, in overall better than fine condition.
3. A Sudetenland Anschluss Medal. (Sudetenland Medaille). Instituted October 18th, 1938. (1938-1940 issue). A round bronze medal, on a fixed loop and ring for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a horizontal pinback mount, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised date of “1. Oktober 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer” (“One People, One Nation, One Leader”), unmarked, measuring 31.7 mm in diameter, weighing 16.52 grams, with small pin holes in the ribbon from previous collector mounting, in overall better than fine condition.
4. A Civil Faithful Service Medal in Silver for 25 Years of Service. (25-Jahre Treudienst Ehrenzeichen). Instituted January 30th, 1938. A Cross Pattée constructed of silvered bronze, on a fixed loop and ring for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a horizontal pinback mount, the cross with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central black enameled swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “Für Treue Dienste” (For Faithful Service), unmarked, measuring 40.8 mm (w) x 40.8 mm (l), weighing 21.27 grams, light patina from age and wear, in overall near very fine condition.
