Germany, Third Reich. A Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge by Friedrich Linden, Type 2A

(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Instituted March 26th, 1936. (1939-1942 issue). Constructed of nickel-silver and tombac, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the base by a ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a slender swastika signature to manufacture by Friedrich Linden, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the eagle in place, with a block hinge, repaired pinback and repaired catch, unmarked but unmistakably an example by Friedrich Linden of Lüdenscheid, measuring 65.0 mm (w) x 53.2 mm (l), weighing 41.22 grams, with some of the tombac of the wreath showing through the silver finish but with the vast majority remaining intact, in extremely fine condition.
