Germany, Third Reich. A Pair of Badges for Military and Sports Merit

(Abzeichen). A pair of badges, including:

1. A War Merit Cross I Class with Swords, constructed of silvered zink, consisting of a Maltese Cross with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an integral hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “4” for Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid, measuring 49.58 mm (w) x 48.92 mm (h), weighing 18.6 grams, demonstrating near-total loss of silver finish throughout, in very fine condition.

2. A DRL Sports Badge, Gold Grade, constructed of a gilded alloy, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a ribbon defaced by a mobile swastika, surrounding stylized initials “DRL”, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “WERNSTEIN, JENA”, measuring 38.72 mm (w) x 48.34 mm (h), weighing 17.4 grams, in extremely fine condition.
