Germany, Third Reich. A Return of the Sudetenland Commemorative Medal in Silver

(Silbermedaille auf die Sudeten-Heimkehr). Constructed of silver, modified with an elaborate post-manufacture suspension apparatus featuring an oval plaque bearing an engraved owner’s name of “BRUNO STEIN 1938”, the obverse bearing a raised female figure holding a child, flanked by inscriptions of “SUDETEN HEIMKEHR 1. OKT. 1938” (“SUDETEN HOMECOMING 1 OCTOBER 1938”) and “ENDE 20 JÄHR UNTERDRÜCKUNG” (“THE END OF 20 YEARS OF OPPRESSION”), the reverse bearing a raised sword and shield defaced by a swastika, flanked by text from Richard Wagner’s opera Lohengrin reading “FÜR DEUTSCHES LAND DAS DEUTSCHE SCHWERT, SO SEI DES REICHES KRAFT BEWÄHRT” ("FOR GERMAN SOIL THE GERMAN SWORD, THUS SHALL THE EMPIRE'S MIGHT BE PROVED"), the obverse engraver marked “K. GOETZ” for Karl Goetz, the edge with a partially-legible maker’s mark and silver content number of “900”, the medal measuring 36.03 mm in diameter, weighing 25.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
