Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, II Class Breast Star with Swords, by Gebrüder Godet

(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler, Bruststern zum Verdienstkreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943-1945 issue). Constructed of silver, silver-gilt and enamels, the obverse consisting of a six-pointed radiant star, bearing a central white enameled Maltese Cross with its arms joined through the quadrants by gilded NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled discs, overlaid across the three and nine o’clock arms by gilded crossed swords, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse features in position, with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, the pinback stamped with a silver content number of “900” and LDO maker’s code of “L/50” for Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 65.45 mm (w) x 75.04 mm (h), weighing 47.6 grams,  a high quality and privately-purchased example, in near mint condition. An excellent example.
