Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross I Class, Type II, Variation B with Case, by B.H. Mayer

(Wiederholungsspange 1939 zum Eisernen Kreuz 1.Klasse 1914, 2. Form). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1940-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, situated above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939” on a pebbled background, the reverse with a barrel hinge and flattened vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a Variation B produced by the firm of B.H. Mayer, Pforzheim, measuring 44.27 mm (w) x 30.52 mm (h), weighing 9.0 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a silvered depiction of the award, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and slotted black felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 20 mm (h),  demonstrating minor material fatigue to the case, in overall extremely fine condition.
