Germany, Wehrmacht. A Rare German Cross in Silver, Light Version, by C.F. Zimmermann

(Deutsches Kreuz in Silber). Constructed of cupal with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid eight-pointed starburst pattern, bearing a central silvered disc overlaid by a black enameled mobile swastika, situated within a circular silvered laurel leaf wreath, wrapped in ribbon and joined together at the bottom by a plaque bearing a date of “1941”, trimmed along both the inner and outer edges with red enameled rings, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, with a barrel hinge and tapering, flattened pinback meeting a rounded catch, the reverse of the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “20” for C.F. Zimmermann, Pforzheim, measuring 63.15 mm (w) x 63.08 mm (h), weighing 44.0 grams, demonstrating minor flecking to the enamels and surface scratching of the base metal, a scarce example in extremely fine condition.
