Pendant in Luristan Bronze, dating to the 10th Century BC, portraying two outward facing goat heads affixed to a base with circular detailing etched into the bottom, featuring a thick loop for suspension, measuring at 22.6mm (w) x 23.5mm (l) x 50.7mm (h), weighing 51.8 grams. Housed in its presentation case with a red velvet interior and gold clasp, including a card addressed to Mr. and Mrs Amir Abbass Hoveyda, the former Prime Minister and his wife. This pendant was awarded to American astronaut Buzz Aldrin during his visit to Iran on his world tour.
Footnote: Luristan bronzes were excavated and re-discovered by archaeologists in the late 1920’s and originate in large numbers from the Lorestān Province and the Kermanshah in western Iran. Some of the best known pieces include anthropomorphic and zoomorphic pieces.
Mr. Amir Abbas Hoveyda was the former Prime Minister of Iran who ruled from 1965-1977 as Iran’s longest serving Prime Minister. This pendant was awarded by Hoveyda to the American Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, most famously known for being the second person to ever walk on the moon. His space missions included Apollo 11 in 1969 and Gemini 12 in 1966.
