Description
Of outstanding attention to detail and quality, with some German manufactured components, this pre second war grouping has remained untouched, contained in its original war trunk.
All original in nature, this set consists of the following:
1. Meiji 19 1886 version tunic, in dark blue fine wool with ornate gilt bullion detailing, red cuffs and fire gilt buttons each marked, single-breasted, with a low standing collar also presented in red with gilt bullion design, interior in silk in both black and near green silk, with interior waist belt with gilt brass buckles, two internal pockets, striped silk interior sleeves exhibiting extensive wear and deterioration from period use, interior collar with 4 bone buttons to secure removable/replaceable collars also with dual hook/eyes for closing, shoulder boards removable with slider, each in extremely thick gilt braided bullion with 2 silvered stars denoting the rank of Lt.General; tunic has been been period altered in length to better suit owner, measuring 39 cm at shoulders, 75 cm in length from collar to the hemline, small mothing to cuffs, extremely fine.
2. Accompanied by the matching trousers, also in dark blue fine wool with a red striped running up the outside seam, complete with all original STEINNUSS-HOSENKNOPF button, with 70 cm inseam, waist 82 cm (32in), very fine.
3. Dress visor, manufactured by Yamamoto, constructed of smooth black wool, the crown of the cap bears a five-pointed star constructed of an embroidered gilt bullion, the body of the cap is trimmed at both the top and bottom with additional bands of gilt bullion wire, central insignia affixed to front of visor, in gilded die stamped bronze, consisting of a stylized radiant sun, measuring 50 mm in diameter at its widest point., top of the insignia has a hole for the accommodation of a decorative plume feather, which features both red and white feathers, with original tube and box, cap is flanked by two bronze buttons, each bearing a raised cherry blossom, holding in place a black leather chinstrap, the latter resting upon the visor, the visor itself is constructed of black lacquered leather, crimped along the peak, and is securely stitched into the body of the cap, the interior bears a 40 mm-wide black leather sweatband neatly stitched into the walls, slightly loose, and is joined together at the reverse by a bowtie-style ribbon, features a complete black silk interior liner, inscribed with a makers name Yamamoto, contained in original box with Japanese characters stating "Fathers Parade Cap", extremely fine.
4. Red and white striped faux silk rayon service sash / belt with red tassel ends, with fire gilt buckles, extremely fine.
All contained within very large, original brown leather trunk. An excellent and well preserved set that has remained untouched.
