(La Cruz de Yucatán). Instituted 1902. 1902-1905 issue. An enameled white and blue four-armed cross in silvered bronze, with enameled white obverse centre depicting the inscription PREMIO DEL ESTADO DE YUCATAN 1902 (State of Yucatan Award 1902), reverse without enamels exhibiting the inscription CAMPAÑA CONTRA LOS MAYAS (Campaign Against Mayas) on the central medallion, surrounded by detailed laurel wreath in silvered bronze, measuring 42.67 mm (w) x 47.12 mm (h - inclusive of the integral ring), with period replacement bar suspension in bronze, toned silvered bronze, with minor crack of white enamels on the arms, fine.

Footnote: The Medal of Yucatán was instituted by the state of Yucatán to award the military personnel who participated in the suppression of a Mayan Indians revolt between 1896-1902 in the state. 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps.
