Decoration for Long, Honourable and Faithful Service in the Army, Bronze Grade for Twelve Years' Service (Six in the Colonies) 1851-1951 (bronze, 35.5 mm, replacement ribbon, edge nick); Cross for Important War Actions, 1 Clasp - ATJEH 1873-1875 (silvered war materials, 38.5 mm (w) x 44.8 mm (h) inclusive of its ball suspension, original ribbon); and Cross for Order and Peace (bronze, maker marked ""KON.-BEGEER VOORSCHOTEN"" and marked ""F.S.INV"" on the reverse, 38.8 mm (w) x 47 mm (h), mounted to an original u-shaped ribbon, marked ""FA. A. TACK BREDA"" on the ribbon support). Ranging from very fine to near extremely fine.

Footnote: The Decoration for Long, Honourable and Faithful Service in the Army Medal, usually referred to as the ""Medal for Faithful Service"", was instituted by King Willem I on February 19, 1825 to reward long and faithful service by professional soldiers and sailors below the rank of officer. It was awarded in three grades: Gold Medal for thirty-six years' service (twenty-five in the colonies), Silver Medal for twenty-four years' service (twelve in the colonies) and the Bronze Medal for twelve years’ service (six years in the colonies). The Cross for Important War Actions was instituted on February 19, 1869, to be awarded to participants in major campaigns, which took place between 1846 and 1942. The Cross for Order and Peace was instituted on December 2, 1947 for military with a minimum three months’ service in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) between 1945 and 1949. After the end of the Second World War, Dutch forces succeeded in reimposing control over most of Indonesia but were met with resistance and guerrilla warfare. Faced with mounting international criticism and with no end to the conflict in sight, the Dutch withdrew in December 1949 and Indonesia became independent.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
