Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of St. John, Type II, Knight of Honour Cross c. 1917

(Ritterorden St. Johannis vom Spital zu Jerusalem Kreuz der Ehrenritter). Instituted 15 October 1852 by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. (1852-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms, each joined through the quadrants by blackened Prussian imperial eagles executed in exceptional detail, the twelve o’clock arm topped by a pebbled fan suspension perforated with an eyelet, the latter retaining a suspension ring and period original full length of neck ribbon culminating in drawstrings, unmarked, measuring 54.74 mm (w) x 55.02 mm (h), weighing 32.2 grams, demonstrating some flecking to the enamels, a wartime example produced c. 1917 in extremely fine condition.
