(Roter Adler Orden, Kreuz II. Klasse). Instituted 12 June 1792 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II. (1864-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with white enameled arms, the obverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a hand-painted and multi-coloured Prussian imperial eagle, topped by a crown, defaced by a Hohenzollern coat of arms, and clutching a laurel wreath, the reverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a gilded and pebbled monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm II, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an eyelet and suspension ring retaining a period original shortened length of neck ribbon, the six o’clock arm maker marked with the logo of Johann Wagner & Sohn, Berlin, measuring 48.07 mm (w) x 52.91 mm (h), weighing 33.0 grams, demonstrating only minor flecking and loss of gilt finish to the enamels and frame, respectively, a high-quality piece produced by one of the most prominent Prussian court jewellers in extremely fine condition.
