A grouping of 7 Russian (Soviet) medals mounted on a pentagonal mount, consisting of:
1. A Medal for Bravery, Type II on pentagonal ribbon. Instituted 17.10.1938. A round silver medal with a raised rim on both the obverse and reverse, the obverse with three aircraft flying from right to left on the upper part, inscribed “ЗА ОТВАГУ” (For Courage) in red enameled script, and with the outline of a dual turret tank near the bottom, the bottom itself is inscribed “CCCP” (USSR) in red enamels, the reverse is numbered “957409”, measuring 37 mm in diameter.
2-3. Medals for Military Merit in Battle, Type II on pentagonal ribbon. Instituted 17.10.1938. A round silver medal with a raised rim on both the obverse and reverse, the obverse inscribed “CCCP” (USSR) in red enameled letters, with “За боевые заслуги” (For Battle Merit) in script below, with a crossed rifle with bayonet and sword at the bottom, the reverse of the first is numbered “2799690” the second is unmarked, measuring 32 mm in diameter.
4. Medal for Victory over Germany. Instituted 9.05.1945. Constructed of circular brass with a raised rim on both sides, the obverse with the left profile bust of Joseph Stalin in the uniform of a Marshal of the Soviet Union, along the upper circumference of the medal the inscription “НАШЕ ДЕЛО ПРАВОЕ” (Our cause is righteous), along the lower circumference of the medal is the inscription “МЫ ПОБЕДИЛИ” (We are victorious), the reverse with a small five pointed star at the bottom, with the inscription “ЗА ПОБЕДУ НАД ГЕРМАНИЕЙ” (For victory over Germany), the inscription “В ВЕЛИКОЙ ОТЕЧЕСТВЕННОЙ ВОЙНЕ 1941—1945” (In the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45), unmarked, measuring 32.1 mm in diameter.
5. A Jubilee Medal for 40 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR. Instituted 18.12.1957. A circular gilded bronze medal, with a raised rim on both sides, the obverse with the left profile bust of Lenin over laurel and oak branches with the number “40” at the base, the reverse bears the inscription “В ОЗНАМЕНОВАНИЕ СОРОКОВОЙ ГОДОВЩИНЫ” (To Commemorate the Fortieth Anniversary) along the exterior rim of the medal with the inscription “ВООРУЖЕННЫХ СИЛ СССР” (Armed Forces USSR) in script in the center and the inscription dates “1918-1958” directly below, measuring 32 mm in diameter.
6. A Medal for the Capture of Budapest. Instituted 09.06.1945. A circular bronze medal with a raised rim on the obverse only, the obverse with a five-pointed star at the top, inscribed “ЗА ВЗЯТИЕ БУДАПЕШТА” (For the capture of Budapest) in the center in two lines, and the bottom with an image of laurel branches with a hammer and sickle, the reverse bears the date “13.02.1945” in relief, measuring 31.9 mm in diameter.
7. A Medal for the Capture of Vienna. Instituted 09.06.1945. A circular bronze medal with a raised rim on the obverse only, the obverse with a five-pointed star at the top, inscribed “ЗА ВЗЯТИЕ ВЕНЫ” (For the capture of Vienna) in script and at the bottom and the bottom with an image of laurel branches with a hammer and sickle, the reverse bears the date “13.04.1945”, measuring 32 mm in diameter.
All awards are mounted onto a Soviet pentagonal mount medal bar, to an aluminum core with their respective ribbons, the reverse with two screw-posts with aluminum keepers, measuring 198 mm (w) x 54 mm (l). The awards show patina from age and wear with the majority of the red enamels of the lettering having worn off and with light to moderate soiling to the ribbons, in overall very fine condition.
