(Sachsen-Ernestinischer Hausorden Bruststern zum Komturkreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted on 25 March 1833. Type II. (1864-1935 Issue). A finely made four armed silver star, each arm composed of a cluster of thirteen individual smooth rays, each ray surrounded by a corded border, obverse centre featuring a Gold medallion with a green-enamelled crown, surrounded by a light blue enamelled ring inscribed “FIDELITER & CONSTANTER” (“FAITHFUL & STEADFAST”) in Gold lettering, with a finely executed green enamelled laurel surround, with two crossed swords in Gold, reverse with large central pin assembly, measuring 84.89 mm (w) x 84.75 mm (h), weighing 58.1 grams, pleasing patina, extremely fine.
Footnote: Between 1914 and 1918, 18 awarded for Saxony-Altenburg, 28 for Saxe- Coburg and Gotha, and 3 from 1919 to 1935 for Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
