Description
(Kungliga Svärdsorden). Instituted February 23rd, 1748 by King Frederick I. Constructed of silver, gilded silver, and enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with ball finials, the cross consisting of a scaled surface with an ornate border, along with a circular turquoise enameled medallion bearing three gilded Swedish crowns, along with a vertically oriented sword, the reverse plain, with an intact vertical pinback, marked “CFC” for manufacture by “C.F. Carlman”, a hallmark depicting three crowns of the Swedish Coat of Arms in a trefoil shape standing for the National Control Mark, “S” for a silver purity of at least .800, an unidentified town hallmark, as well as a date stamp “D8” for manufacture in 1930, measuring 73.8 mm (w) x 74.1 mm (l), weighing 58.34 grams.
Accompanied by its presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core, with a textured bi-colour faux leather (leatherette) exterior, the exterior of the lid embossed “K.S.O”, “K.I.”, and Kraschan” in gilt, the interior of the lid is lined in padded off-white silk and is embossed with “C.F. Carlman, Stockholm” in gilt, with a functional exterior metal hinge, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional exterior push-button clasp.
A fine example of this award in its original presentation case, with attractive toning to the silver surfaces and the enamels intact, in overall better than very fine condition.
