Description
Includes two pieces: tunic and breeches. This tunic is fabricated from a thick army green wool, with button down epaulette straps on both shoulders, each is secured in place by a small gilt-finished brass button bearing the United States coat-of-arms, with a Captain rank insignia pinned in place on both straps. The front has four pockets, one on each breast which have decorative straps giving them a pleated-look, the other two at the waist are without pleats and are larger and deeper than the breast pockets. All four pockets have fold over button down flaps with reinforced button holes and small gilt-finished brass buttons bearing the United States coat-of-arms, the two larger waist pockets with an additional cloth tab and small brown button, in addition to being cotton lined. The front is completed by a vertical row of four large gilt-finished brass buttons bearing the United States coat-of-arms on the right side, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side. The large buttons are maker marked "J.R. GAUNT & SON N.Y." and marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on their reverses, the small buttons marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on their reverses. The cuff on each sleeve has a 10 mm wide olive green embroidered braid, the tunic single-vented at the rear. The interior is lined in cinnamon brown nylon in selected locations, the panels beside the opening on both sides, along with a strip on one side of the vent at the rear, while the sleeves are lined in white cotton.
There is an embroidered tailor's label inscribed "The Craddock Uniforms/ for Every Purpose / New York - Philadelphia / Kansas CIty - St. Louis" sewn in place just inside the opening on the right side, the tunic measuring 450 mm across the shoulders x 730 mm in length. The accompanying breeches are fabricated from a thick army green wool, matching that of the tunic, designed with a button down fly, with four brown plastic buttons on the right side facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side. It has four pockets, with side-entry pockets on both sides at the front, along with two on the rear seat, each of the pockets with a light brown plastic button and reinforced button hole, and are lined in a white cotton. The exterior has seven belt loops on the waistband. Each leg has a multi-stitched reinforcing patch stitched in place on the inner leg. The cuffs are of the lace-up design, with the lace fed through eight pairs of reinforced button holes, with a fold over flap at the opening incorporating three reinforced button holes, facing three light brown buttons on the opposite side of the opening, the lacing and the buttons ensuring a secure fit, the breeches measuring 900 mm at the waist x 920 mm in length. Both pieces are free of mothing, displaying a wonderful texture in the wool, along with quality workmanship and are very clean. Extremely fine.
