Bronze Star Medal (in bronze gilt, measuring 36 mm (w) x 35.3 mm (h), original ribbon with brooch pinback, maker marked "LI-GI"(Lordship Industries, Government Inspected) on the brooch); and Joint Service Commendation Medal (two-piece construction, in bronze gilt with green enamels, measuring 41 mm (w) x 45.5 mm (h), original ribbon with brooch pinback, maker marked "GI" (General Industries) on the brooch. Intact enamels, light contact, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Bronze Star Medal was established by Executive Order 9419, February 4, 1944 (superseded by Executive Order 11046, August 24, 1962, as amended by Executive Order 13286, 28 February 2003) and awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. The Joint Service Commendation Medal was authorized on June 25, 1963 and is awarded in the name of the Secretary of Defense to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who, after January 1, 1963, distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement or service in a joint duty capacity. This award is intended for senior service on a joint military staff and is senior in precedence to service-specific Commendation Medals.
