(Ordine die San Silvestro e dello Speron d'Oro). Instituted in 1841. Type II (1905-on). Three-piece construction, in silver with blue and white enamels, unmarked, measuring 58.5 mm (w) x 59.2 mm (h), chipping and crazing evident in the blue enamels around the saint's head on the obverse centrepiece, chipping present in the white enamels on both points of the arm at 9 o'clock on both sides, along with crazing on the left point of the arm at 6 o'clock on the reverse, with a replacement full-length neck ribbon, near very fine. Accompanied by its Miniature with a three-piece construction, in silver with blue and white enamels, unmarked, measuring 12 mm (w) x 14.5 mm (h), near extremely fine, in their hardshelled case of issue, red dimpled exterior, Vatican coat-of-arms on the lid, inside lid in red satin and maker marked "E. GARDINO Succ. / D. CRAVANZOLA / GIOIELLERE / ROMA", base in maroon felt with recessed medal beds for both awards but is empty where the rosette once resided, measuring 119 mm (w) x 152 mm (h) x 28.5 mm (d), exhibiting scuffing on the exterior, case also near very fine.
Footnote: The Order of St. Sylvester and of the Golden Spur was instituted on October 31, 1841 by Pope Gregory XVI and awarded for civil and military services, in four grades: Grand Cross, Commander with Star, Commander and Knight.
