(Orden de Francisco de Miranda). Instituted in 1939. Hardshelled design on both the lid and base, the exterior with a black dimpled fabric covering on all sides, the lid bearing the Venezuelan coat-of-arms and inscribed "ORDEN FRANCISCO DE MIRANDA" below in gold-coloured ink, inside lid lined in maroon satin, padded and maker marked "JOYERIAS UNIDAS S.A.", the base with a maroon synthetic dimpled liner and a maroon fabric-wrapped cardboard insert placed within, dual-hinged, designed without a secure closure, measuring 123 mm (w) x 243 mm (h) x 31.3 mm (d), the lid undulated versus the base, missing its medal bed insert, fine.
Footnote: The Order of Francisco de Miranda is conferred by the Republic of Venezuela, in memory of Francisco de Miranda (1754-1816). This national honour and decoration was created to recognize Venezuelan citizens and foreigners who have contributed to the sciences, who have contributed to national advancement and progress of the country, to the humanities, or to those who have exemplified outstanding merits. There are several variations in this Order. This Order was originally a medal, established in 1934, however, it was established as an Order on July 28, 1939, in three grades: Grand Cross, Commander and Knight.
